SPOTTED & DOTTED!

(love...)
(I...)

(these...)
(pictures!)

I can't possibly think of any other garment and accessory pattern that is as effortless, playful and forever in fashion as polka dots! The print takes me on a trip down memory lane; as a child I had a red and white polka dot dress that I couldn't part with because of how cute I thought I looked in it. :) Unfortunately I do not have photographic evidence to prove this! Polka dots are complimentary on a number of garments and adds a chic, vintage feel to any outfit; pleated skirts, sheer blouses, pants, shorts, dresses, hats, scarfs, even shoes, it just works!

What I love most about the print, other than everything about it, is the different sizes and colours you can get it in, Classic colour combinations include black dots on white, white dots on black (reverse colour does actually make a garment appear completely different; another things to love about polka dots) red dots on white and white dots on red, which was the combination of my once-upon-a-time childhood dress. Pairing polka dots with garments of the same colour scheme guarantees you looking polished. Everyone can pull of this trend, as long as it's worn in the right way.

COLOUR ME BAD!

The world of fashion takes into account every colour under the sun by experimenting with different shades, tones and tints of the three primary colours; red, yellow and blue for those of you who forgot! Below are a selection of my personal favourites that have graced runways everywhere. The garments that have been created in these colours, and featured below are gorgoues and emphasize how effortlessly colour compliments drapping and/or structured designs. I consider this post a colour palette for yours and my own visual satisfaction and colour appreciation!

OVERSIZED KNITS

Being comfortable doesn't necessarily mean throwing on baggy sweatpants and gi-normous hoodies. You can easily be FASHIONABLY comfortable in oversized knits that are purposely tailored to be slouchy yet stylish; contradictory adjectives, I know, but in this case it works! With summer coming to an end its time to put away our maxi dresses and jumpsuits, our flip flops and sunglasses and embrace the other side of our closets. Over sized knits in the form of long waistcoats or over the shoulder sweaters and chunky cardigans are just three of the many styles and shapes you can get. Simply paired up withskinnies or leggings of your colour choice guarantees a laid back and relaxed look, without looking frumpy!

ANIMAL ATTACK!

(Zebra Stripes)
While I was flipping through the newest issue of LOOK magazine I couldnt help but notice every fashion page i turned to my eyes were met with animal print garments or accessories; bird feather earrings, leapord print dresses, scarfs and purses, snake skin belts, faux fur bags, zebra print playsuits...the list is truely endless! But dont get it twisted, I'm not complaining, as the phrase, 'animal attack' would suggest. Owning quite a few things animal influenced myself I can confidently say its becoming quite essential in any woman's wardrobe. Why? The prints and textures are simply gorgeous and easily accessible in high street stores or designer labels. Kim Kardashian is the biggest animal print culprit i've come across thus far, she has it all! Whatever your style there's no need to worry because animal print is extremely versatile and forever in fashion!

IT'S TURBAN-TASTIQUE!

(Queen of Turbans, Miss Ambrose!)
(June Ambrose, Solange Knowles, Michelle Chrisette)
If your looking to make a fashion statement in the quickest and simplest way possible, grab a giant cloth and just wrap it around your head; keep in mind though that you will need to use a level of creativity and craftsmanship if you want your headpiece to look fashionable and not odd!! Solange Knowles, who has whole heartedly embraced an afrocentric style fits effortlessly with this trend as it compliments her boho look. paired up with skinny jeans or a maxi skirt, (post on maxi skirts coming soon!) the look is fantastic...I mean turban-tastique! Lucky for us, turbans are the most current and trendy solution to bad hair days as well! Miss June Ambrose, turban designer herself is clearly loving the look; she ended up wearing a different turban everyday of New York Fashion Week! She got a bit carried away...but dont we all sometimes?!

BELL BOTTOMS ARE BACK!

Wide leg pant jumpsuits have became the alternative to maxi dresses this season. They have the same aesthetic as the later, but the wideness of its leg give it a more daring flare. If your looking for a way to make your legs look miles longer than this is the trend solution for you. You benefit from the length, style and shape of the jumpsuit to make you look and feel fashionable.
So, we've explored the more playful side of this trend, lucky for us there is also a formal and more edgy look you can get from wide leg pants. Designs by Dian Von Furstenberg and Lacoste are gracing runways and red carpets everywhere. These pants can be worn in the office when paired with a well structured blazer or can be worn for a day out with a simple cardy. Fun, Flirty and formal...what more can you ask for from pants?!

THE BRIGHTER, THE BETTER!

How do you turn two colour contrasting items into a fabulous outfit? Wear them together! Colour blocking is a fantastic way of giving an outfit heaps of personality and making you stand out as a brave fashionista! The best way to wear this new trend for the summer is to pair up bright colours; dont be afraid of experimenting, you will be pleasantly surprised to find out how amazing you look wearing orange and purple! Its playful yet sophisticated and you'll have people looking at you and wondering why they never thought of it as well. Looking this good couldn't be any simpler!

STRIPES vs FLORALS

Black or white? Left or right? Up or down? STRIPES OR FLORALS? This summer making decisions just got harder! Whether your looking for the perfect fitting bikini or jumpsuit, or that day time maxi dress, there is no doubt that you will be torn between what pattern to go with. Stripes and florals are the patterns making women even more indecisive than we already are! The good news is that whichever pattern is picked, you are guaranteed to be looking effortless!
Stripes and florals have become a fashion trend that women are embracing this
summer. Not only are they being worn as seperates, but mixing the two prints in the same outfit is proving to be a perfect match...with a twist!
