FASHIONISTA! (7) JANELLE MONAE

In this day and age, if you hear the name 'Janelle Monae' and the little light bulb in your head doesn't switch on, than you clearly haven't been introduced to one of music and fashion's most elating, upbeat and exciting funkster; "a different type of diva", as she has been described by Vogue Magazine. Her fusion of funk, pop, soul and RnB makes her a muse for feel good music that instantly makes you want to snap your fingers, bop your shoulders and move your feet, and listening to her track Janelle Monae - Tightrope while I write about her makes me want to do just that.

Her infamous black and white ensembles play a prominent role in complimenting all the colour and life that she diffuses through her music and the visionary consideres her tuxedo inspired get ups as a uniform for her career; "I bathe it, I swim it and I could be buried in it" she says. Her ever exciting style breaks alot of traditional gender stereotypes of what women are 'supposed' to wear and Miss Monae is definately a leading example of how the androgynous trend has comfortbaly fit into modern fashion paradigms.

PRETTY IN PEPLUM!

Now ladies, we all know we come in different shapes and sizes and what looks good on one type of body frame sometimes doesn't look as good on another; speaking from numerous experiences! However, sigh no more darlings because there definitely is a wardrobe-must-have that flatters every body shape and creates great silhouettes for our gorgeous female frames. It goes by the name, 'peplum'! The added flared pleats or ruffles is attached to the waistlines of dresses, blazers, jackets, blouses and pencil skirts and makes any outfit look sophisticated yet very flirty! Depending on your mood you can wear very subtle, soft flares around the waist or bigger more dramatic flares if your feeling a bit daring! With the right tailoring peplum could easily be your new favourite wardrobe piece as it instantly adds drama and glamour to any look.

FASHIONISTO! (6) - THEOPHILIS LONDON

Clean-cut tailoring, crisp, yellow button up, rusty-red belt, shiny brogues - it just works!

Now, this is the genius man that is responsible for feel-good tracks that include Theophilis London ft Solange Knowles - Flying Overseas and Theophilis London - I Stand Alone . With his brimmed hats, fitted skinnies, courdoroys, button up shirts, classic frames, fancy shoes and colourful get-ups, his style is a modern interpretation of vintage and new school fashion! His hipster-ish ways are translated in his exciting music as well which is a blend of hip-hop, indie-rock, electronica and disco. When I first heard of Theophilis London, I was very skeptical about his direction, musically as well as in the fashion department, but the more you listen and look at him you begin to make sense of him as a character!

"My personal style is edgy, a little raw, and not just high-end. I get a lot of stuff from the thrift store and Goodwill. I like to wear a lot of one-tone color outfits—same color trousers, same color shirt. Or have a contrast. People seem to like it and kind of look at me as this fashion icon but I never look at myself like that." - very modest statement there Mr London.

Orange, suede jacket, textured grey pants and a turtle neck- the green brim adds a great colour contrast
95% new school, 5 %vintage - the hat!
Blue on blue on blue on even more blue - done so well!

Two-tone jacket, fitted off-white pants, maroon button-up, blue hat and man-bag!
Statement velvet blazer and a gold broche- nice accessory!
Mustard chinos, patterned, sky blue button-up, whte kicks - quite experiemental!

One of my fave fashionista's Solange Knowles kickin it with Mr London!

QUOTE-TO-NOTE! (4)

"I believe fashion is not about what you wear, but how you wear it. It's more that putting together outfits and creating different looks, but a form of expression of one's identity, creating a new outer layer of skin. I live it, I breathe it. I express it." Adetayo Fajemisin

FASHIONISTO! (5) - KANYE WEST

Grey blazer paired up with an unexpected star pattern, polo shirt and red pocket scarf - nice!
We all know a face that doesn't need an introduction! Love him or hate him, you must admit that his confidence makes him a character like no other, and this confidence is translated immensely in his fashion choices.

"Appearance is everything. You have to respect the clothes. When you walk into a room and you are well-dressed, those who respect fashion have to honour you in a whole new way. When I see someone with no taste - automatically I am taking points off of their opinion about other things, about music I'm like, 'You cannot figure out what shoes to put with your shirt! How am I going to listen to you about anything else?" Insightful words from the man himself.

With a fashion disposition like his, it only make sense that he would embark on major projects that include, a men’s footwear collection for Louis Vuitton "Kanye for LV" and the launch of his own fashion label, "Pastelle". Personally I absolutely love the way Kanye finishes off most of his outfits with a statement blazer, and who doesn't appreciate a man that wears great shoes?! This is clearly a man that understands and owns his style.

The red blazer gives this outift so much umph!

On trend with the autumn colour palette!

Pin stripes!
Leather pants and a chunky gold necklace worn with such confidence!

The details on this jacket make it a statement garment!

The black trimming on this blazer is so chic!
Sexy loafers!

Even Kanye is rocking leopard print!

The trainers give this classic tuxedo get up a fashion-forward twist!

Rusty-red from head to toe - daring!

FASHIONISTO! (4) - LABRINTH

Any man that can pull of wearing that much mustard yellow deserves 5 stars!
Not only is he the talent behind one of my all time, favourite songs Let The Sunshine - Labrinth and Frisky - Tinie Tempah ft. Labrinth, he is also a man worth making note of when it comes to recognising someone that has their own, individual style! Take a look at some of the vibrant shoes this man owns, plus you have to commend a man that's not afraid of colour, and Labrinth definately isn't! Born Timothy Mckenzie, this is an individual that knows how to find the right balance between having a playful yet sophisticated style and I find it very exciting.

Monochrome brogues - brilliant!
Rust coloured loafers, full blue suit, plum red tie and pocket scarf!
Three-tone shoes - fancy!
Tell me someone else who can confidently pull off this one!
Now this is called taking a risk!
Even I want that blazer!!!
Metallic effect - jungle green suit, lime green shirt and yellow bow tie - loving the colour mix
